Report on the School of Medicine and Dentistry Maiden Interclass Choral Competition held December 5, 2016.
On December 7, 2016, the University of Ghana School of Medicine and Dentistry held its Maiden Interclass Choral Competition. The objective was to bring the students together to develop their organizational, management and leadership skills through music and competition. These skills make for responsible, self-assured, well-balanced and well-rounded medical officers and it was a phenomenal and resounding success.
In view of the upcoming elections and to promote peace and harmony in the Nation, the compulsory song selected was ‘Yen Ara Asase Ni’ (This is our own Land) composed by the legendary Ghanaian composer, Ephraim Amu. None better to judge the renunciation of this song than the daughter of its composer, retired musicologist from the University of Ghana, Dr Misonu Amu.
The three other Judges from our own institution were accomplished organist, Mr Anthony Laing (Plastic Surgeon) and celebrated violinists Dr Samuel Geppi-Atte (Urologist) and Dr Frank Boni (Anaesthesiologist).
The award for first runner up was presented to the Third Clinical Year (Class of 2017) choir, conducted by Kwadwo Poku Assiedu. The First Prize Trophy was lifted by the Second Clinical Year (Class of 2018) choir and conducted by Kwadwo Brenya Aniboe.
We are grateful to Eadbert Nortey, Sarah Nartey, Ruth Baddoo and Bridget Martin under the Chairmanship of Dr Merley Newman-Nartey (Orthodontist) for organizing this historic event and we would like to throw a challenge to other schools and colleges of the University of Ghana who would like to compete with us.
